The Hamster Guide
Syrians.
Syrians (Mesocricetus auratus) are often called other names. They are called Teddy Bear Hamsters, Panda Bear Hamsters, Black Bear Hamsters, Fancy Hamsters, etc. These are all not legitimate names, they are all Syrians. In 1839, in Syria, they were found. Syrians are bigger than any other hamster species, usually being at least 12 centimeters. They are solitary. Solitary- done or existing alone. Syrians WILL fight, possibly to the death or injury of others if housed together. They must be seperated at 2 months or earlier. Most petstores house them together, but they are wrong. Do not believe petstores know everything, because a lot do not. My Syrian was housed with his brother at 5 months at our petstore, along with multiple other Syrians. They usually live to be 2 or more years, depending on the hamster. Syrians are many different colors, such as my 2 for example.

Syrians are not prone to wet tail or diabetes, but there is other health issues. They can catch a ''cold'', and they can get tumors, abcesses, or respiratory issues.
